Absorption Fridges - 12v, 240v & LPG
Absorption Fridges
Absorption fridges, often called 3-way fridges, run on 12V, 230V or gas, making them ideal for flexible power use in a caravan, campervan or motorhome. Rather than a compressor, they use heat from gas or electricity to drive the cooling, which is why good ventilation matters. They're at their best on mains or gas: that does the hard work of cooling from cold, while 12V mainly keeps the fridge at temperature as you drive rather than cooling it itself.

Compressor Fridges - 12v & 24v
Compressor Fridges
A compressor fridge, also known as a 12V fridge, works much like the one you have at home, circulating refrigerant to draw the warm air out and cool things down quickly. It's a popular choice for caravans, campervans and motorhomes where mains or gas isn't always to hand. Unlike an absorption fridge it runs on 12V alone, straight from your leisure battery, so there's no gas bottle to connect and no wall vents to cut into the bodywork. That does mean longer off-grid trips come down to power supply, so if you're away from hook-up a lot, it's worth adding leisure batteries and solar to keep it running comfortably.
